The Animal Welfare Science Centre was formed in 1997 and is a research collaboration between The University of Melbourne, The Ohio State University - Departments of Animal Sciences and Veterinary Preventive Medicine and The United States Department of Agriculture - Agricultural Research Service - Livestock Behavior Research Unit.
The Centre is an important mechanism to facilitate collaborative research between our organisations and we are proud to be partners.
The Centre’s research and teaching capacity is considerable with scientific expertise and experience in the key disciplines of animal behaviour, psychology, stress physiology and veterinary medicine.
The Centre provides excellent opportunities for post-graduate studies available to a variety of students both nationally and internationally. Post-graduates are essential to the continued research effort at the Centre and assist to strengthen linkages between the AWSC and other scientific organisations. It is important that students entering the animal industries are well prepared to provide sound, science-based advice on animal welfare practices to industry, interest groups and the public.
